The Film Financing Scheme for Mainland Market

In order to support Hong Kong film companies and the Mainland cultural enterprises to invest in the productions of Hong Kong directors for release in the Mainland market, the Government will implement a new measure namely the Film Financing Scheme for Mainland Market (the Scheme) under the Film Development Fund (FDF). During the visit to Xiamen from November 1 to 2, the Head of Create Hong Kong, Mr Victor Tsang, and the Secretary-General of Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), Mr Gary Mak, met with Mainland officials, the FDC members and industry practitioners from Hong Kong and the Mainland, briefed them on the Scheme and discuss further collaborations in driving Hong Kong and Mainland film industries.

In "The Chief Executive's 2023 Policy Address" delivered on 25 October 2023, $4.3 billion will be injected into the FDF and the CreateSmart Initiative, as well as launching the Scheme which aims to provide more opportunities to Hong Kong directors, let them have a better grasp of the Mainland market, enrich their horizons and experience, as well as to strengthen exchanges between the two places so that talented Hong Kong directors could bring more outstanding pieces to Mainland audiences and tell good stories.

It is estimated that the Scheme will provide subsidy to around 20 film projects, $10 million each, in the coming two to three years.  For details of the Scheme, please visit the website of the FDC (https://www.fdc.gov.hk/en/ffsmm).
