Overview

The objective of the Funding Scheme is to nurture cross-sectoral production teams in the new age of cinema and to expand new distribution markets for the Hong Kong film industry by producing high-quality streaming content.

The scheme will be conducted through a competition to recruit participating teams to develop content of mini-series to be broadcast on streaming platforms. The shortlisted teams must provide a detailed proposal and full script of the first six to 12 episodes. They will be awarded $0.6 million to $1.2 million for script development. Each winning team will be awarded $4.5 million to complete the production of the first episode or first two episodes of the series. Together with the script development fee, each winning team will be awarded a total of up to $5.7 million in total. A maximum of four winning teams will be subsidised. The winning team is free to engage in agreements with streaming platforms/investors to complete the entire series.

Eligibility:
  • The main creative team should include four positions: producer, script supervisor, scriptwriter and director.  All producers, script supervisors, scriptwriters and directors must be Hong Kong permanent residents;
  • Producers and script supervisors should have completed at least two feature films which have been commercially released or two series broadcast on television or streaming platforms in the past ten years in the capacity of a producer or script supervisor;
  • Director and at least one scriptwriter should have completed at least one feature film which has been commercially released or one series broadcast on television or streaming platforms in the past ten years in the capacity of a director or scriptwriter.
